Terms & Conditions

Entry to the ‘Celebrate Diversity Miami’ (“CDM”) 2015 Photo-voice Exhibit (the “Exhibit”) is open to anyone who lives within Miami-Dade County.

What to Enter

We are looking for fun, thoughtful images celebrating residents of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Candid and/or posed pictures of friends, family, and neighbors should highlight the diversity of your community of residence. Photos must contain people, but please, no selfies. NOTE: You are responsible for confirming permission to take photos of the individuals depicted in your submission(s).

The Photo Submission Form (the “Form”) includes a field for brief descriptions (limit to 100 words), which should tell us a little bit about the story behind each image submitted. Any description over 100 words may be shortened at CDM’s sole discretion.

Examples of what to capture in your images:

  • Arts and cultural activities like playing music, dancing, etc.
  • Volunteering and making a difference in your community
  • Outdoor activities like playing sports, camping, going to the beach, etc.
  • Visiting landmarks or points of interest in your neighborhood

Do not submit images that:

  • Depict discrimination of any individuals based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, or sexual orientation
  • Involve damage to the environment by the photo subjects or photographer
  • Infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person
  • Involve putting any individuals or animals in danger
  • Involve the willful harassment of people or animals
  • Involve human nudity

All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. In other words, do not heavily “Photoshop” your images or use digital photo filters such as the filters available via your phone camera. Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single “High Dynamic Range” (HDR) image are acceptable. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be accepted at CDM’s sole discretion. NOTE: Instagram photos will not provide a sufficient high-resolution.

How to Enter

All images must be submitted through the Form on our website. All required fields (indicated with an *) must be filled out in order for entries to be valid.

Entrants must submit at least one photo, and may provide up to three photos. You can select an image directly from your computer or mobile device. Digital images that are sent via postal mail or e-mail will not be accepted.

Eligibility

To ensure eligibility for the exhibit, all entries must be submitted in JPEG format and have a resolution of 300 DPI at a minimum of 5 megapixels = 2592 x 1936 pixels in dimension (iPhone 4 or similar Android/Windows phones or greater), and in landscape (horizontal) format. Any photo submissions that do not meet this standard may be added to our website, but may not be used for the exhibit if the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide the proper resolution when asked. If images are submitted in portrait (vertical) format, they are subject to be cropped to landscape format for use in the Exhibit.

Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see “Your Rights” below). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to CDM upon request. Please do not upload any photographs with watermarks.

Deadlines

***Please note additional change in date***

The deadline for photo submissions is now 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as the highest resolution version of their photo) anytime after February 11, 2015.

Images selected for the Exhibit will be announced in late-March 2015. These and other images may be selected for display in additional events or promotional materials leading up to or after the Exhibit.

CDM reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.

Selected Photos

Because the Exhibit has limited display space for photos, images to be displayed will ultimately be selected by a steering committee (members TBA) reflecting the diversity of greater Miami.  Although not crucial to selection, images that feature originality, technical excellence, composition, impact, and artistic merit are likely to be chosen. All decisions made by CDM are final.

Prizes

Select images will be honored in the following categories: elementary/middle/ high school, college, general community, and organization. Prize details TBA.

Your Rights

You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit — including ownership if applicable. You only grant CDM rights (as described below) to your photograph if your images are selected to be on display at the Exhibit or any other CDM events and promotional materials related to the Exhibit.

If your photograph is selected for print or display at the Exhibit, or other CDM events and promotional materials related to the Exhibit, you grant CDM a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:

  • Use the photograph on the Internet in support of our mission.
  • Use the photograph in CDM’s non-commercial communications.
  • Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for non-commercial use, CDM-related use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, and the like.
  • Use, in connection with the Exhibit, your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
  • Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that your photos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.

As conditions of this permission, CDM shall credit all photographs with the caption “© Person’s Name” when the full name is available.
